In light of the limited traffic volumes in the first years after the commercial opening of Maasvlakte 2, it was decided at the first instance to use a level crossing on the Maasvlakteweg near the Prinses Amaliahaven. Several roads (Maasvlakteweg, Prinses Maximaweg, Maasvlakteboulevard and Amoerweg) will come together at the location of this crossing, including a railway line, a pipeline strip and a future Container Exchange Route (CER).
