The N470 was newly constructed in 2006. The construction of the N470 has created a new and safe connection between Delft and Zoetermeer, with a separate exit to Rotterdam. The road and railway cross each other at a skewed angle of approximately 60 degrees.
The underpass (Works 16) was designed as a two-lane road with the option of an expansion of two more lanes. The railway deck is made of prestressed concrete trough beam with cast rails. The abutments are based on tubex piles, and anchored to retaining structures in the slope of the railway embankment. The tunnel body consists of a reinforced concrete floor and walls and has a foundation of tension piles.
DVA has provided a design leader responsible for the Design and Construct (RAW) of Works 16 (tunnel south under the Hofplein line, Berkel en Rodenrijs).
