DVA made an independent calculation of the tensile stresses in the seams of the geobags; these are stacked in nine layers, creating a provisional bank protection. The developed model incorporates hydrodynamic, geotechnical and material engineering aspects. Satellite measurements have shown that the significant wave height and associated wave attack to which the structure is exposed, is significantly greater than would be expected from purely statistical data. This wave data, combined with the safety factors that are required for the application of geotextiles, has resulted in a more realistic approach to the occurring tensile forces in the seam.
